Norm Miller, Chairman
Norm Miller, Chairman of Interstate Battery System of America started his career at his father’s Interstate distributorship in Tennessee and by the early 1960s, moved to work for his mentor, company-founder John Searcy. Norm took his place at the helm of Interstate Batteries in 1978. He expanded the Interstate family of dealers to more than 200,000 across North America.
In addition to his marketing savvy, Norm is known for his strong Christian business principles, and often speaks to interested organizations around the country. Norm’s faith defines who he is, and he and his management team offer a ministry to interested Interstate employees through a Corporate Chaplain Department.
Norm serves as a board member for Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas Seminary Foundation, the Overseas Council and BEE World. He is co-founder of the Great American Race, America’s premier vintage car event for more than 25 years, and a founding team member of I Am Second (www.iamsecond.com). In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoys freshwater fishing.

Scott Miller, President & CEO
Scott Miller is the President & CEO of Interstate Batteries. He graduated from Colorado Christian University in 1991 with a degree in business management.
Upon graduation, Scott joined the Interstate system and has held a variety of positions including National Account Executive and Manager, Independent Distributor Regional Manager, Director of Marketing, Director of Interstate-owned Territories and Vice President of Creative Communication & Events.
Outside of Interstate, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, golf, fishing, and is a fan of Manchester United.
Dennis Brown, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer
Dennis Brown is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Interstate Batteries. He started his career with Sears after attending Wayne State University. Later, he worked at Johnson Controls, where he focused on original equipment batteries and gained experience in battery manufacturing, battery design and battery quality standards and control.
Dennis joined Interstate in 1991 as Director of National Account Sales. Next, he served as Vice President of National Account Sales and Marketing, led efforts to acquire Battery Patrol which is Interstate All Battery today, and then became Vice President of Marketing before overseeing enterprise initiatives in his current role. He is also responsible for developing international markets.
As a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, Dennis is married with three children, eight grandchildren and enjoys fishing and playing golf.
Walt Holmes, Distributor Operations & Innovation Team,
Interstate Owned Territories
Walt Holmes is Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Interstate Batteries and is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas General Counsel Forum. He graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate degree from Baylor Law School.
Prior to joining Interstate in 1995, Walt worked for several Dallas law firms handling litigation, employment and insurance matters. Additional roles served at Interstate include Vice President of PowerCare and Interstate-owned territories.
He is an avid fan of John Grisham novels and thoroughly enjoys coaching baseball and playing golf. Walt and his wife reside in Coppell with their three children.
Lisa Huntsberry, Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Lisa Huntsberry, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Interstate Batteries, earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Baylor University. She received her Certified Public Accountancy Certification in 1984 and is a certified Culture ROI leadership trainer.
Prior to joining Interstate in 1997 as a corporate controller, Lisa held positions with Arthur Andersen, Wyndham Hotels and American Airlines. When she first started at Interstate, Lisa supervised the Controllers Group, and later was given responsibility for the Financial Services Area, the All Battery Accounting Group and the PowerCare Accounting Group.
Lisa recently served as the Dallas chapter president of Women of Vision, a volunteer arm of World Vision, and is a current member of Dallas’ Executive Women’s Roundtable. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys volunteering with a focus on mission work and traveling. To date, she has visited more than 30 countries including Nepal, Mongolia and China.
Billy Norris, Vice President – National Accounts
In 1979, Billy Norris started his career at Interstate Batteries as a hot-shot warehouse person. Later, he held the positions of Route Sales Manager, National Sales Representative, Director of Distributor Development and Director of National Accounts.
Now, as Vice President of National Accounts, Billy focuses on getting Interstate and its distributors in a position to grow in the retail world, while maintaining and growing the businesses the company has today.
Billy enjoys playing golf in his free time as well as spending time with his wife, two children and grandson.
Merv Tarde, Vice President – Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
Merv Tarde is Vice President of Interstate’s Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and minors in chemistry and astronomy.
Merv sets the strategic direction for IT and oversees all IT based networks, systems and resources serving customers throughout the Interstate Batteries System. He is also responsible for Interstate’s office facilities and real estate. Prior to joining Interstate in 1998, he spent over 20 years in Telecom starting with Bell Laboratories and ending up with AT&T Wireless where he held several executive-level positions.
Merv currently serves on the board of directors for The Information Systems Research Center and Information Technology and Decision Sciences at North Texas, the SIMPosium CIO Advisory Council, and is a member of the Advisory Council for the Dallas Catholic Foundation, CIO Advisory Council for the Dallas Oracle Users Group, and the 2007 recipient of the Information Technology Executive of the Year award presented by the Dallas-Ft. Worth SIM Chapter.
His hobbies include bowling, yard work and music, and he and his wife of 35 years have three children and two grandchildren.
Michael Tapp, Vice President – All Battery Center
Michael Tapp is Vice President of All Battery Center. He joined Interstate in 2008, first working with Interstate-owned Territories and later heading up the strategic market intelligence initiative called Dealer Universe.
Before coming to Interstate, Michael led a strategic reorganization and spearheaded corporate operations at Macfarlan Capital Partners. He also held leadership roles at Shell Oil Company and Fluid Compressor Partners. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and an engineering degree from Texas A&M University.
A supporter of Dallas Theological Seminary, The Navigators and Cru, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, reading and playing tennis.
Chris Willis, Vice President – Human Resources
& General Counsel
Chris Willis is Vice President of Human Resources and General Counsel for the Interstate system. He has responsibility for enterprise human resources, including team member development, training, recruiting, engagement and retention. As General Counsel, Chris has responsibility for enterprise legal matters, including risk and litigation management, intellectual property, corporate governance and transactions.
Chris received BA degrees in Economics and Political Science from Southern Methodist University and a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. He began legal practice in Dallas, Texas where he handled insurance and commercial litigation.
Since joining Interstate in 2005, Chris has served as Director of Legal Services, Director of Human Resources and General Counsel.
Chris is very active in and has served in various leadership positions in the Texas General Counsel Forum and the Children’s Trust, supporting Children’s Medical Center Dallas. His pastimes include biking, running and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
Jane Koenecke, Vice President – Creative Communication & Events
Jane Koenecke joined Interstate in 1990 as an Associate Editor in the Communication Department. She continued her rise to Vice President in roles ranging from Communication Supervisor and Manager to Director. Jane graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and minors in public relations and Spanish.
Prior to Interstate, she held the position of Public Relations Manager at Sammons Communications Inc., in Dallas, and Marketing Specialist at Hall Financial Group. She is also a certified Culture ROI leadership trainer and has led Interstate’s Link Team for several years. As vice president of CCE, Jane maintains company brand standards and leads the team members who create company messaging and plan events across all divisions.
Jane also serves on the Communications Studies Advisory Board for Southern Methodist University and on the DFW Communications Roundtable.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and volunteering for her church.
Jon Savage, Vice President – Interstate Batteries Recycling, Supply Chain and International Distributor Development
Jon Savage, Vice President of Interstate Batteries Recycling, Supply Chain and International Distributor Development, started with Interstate in 1993 and has held various positions in Marketing and Supply Chain. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Criswell College and is member of several trade associations including Battery Council International, the International Lead Zinc Study Group and the Department of Commerce Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Non-Ferrous Metals.
Jon maintains Interstate’s designation as the number one collector and recycler of lead-acid batteries in North America. Interstate invests significant resources every year collecting spent batteries, managing collection strategies and meeting EPA and DOT compliance standards.
Married for 20 years with three daughters, Jon is an active member of his church, enjoys reading history and fly fishing.
Wendell Samuel, Vice President – PowerCare
Wendell Samuel began his diverse career at Interstate in 1998 as an Accounts Receivable Supervisor. Since that time, he has held positions that include Senior Accounting Manager, Director of Corporate Accounting and Services, and has been a key player in the development of Interstate’s fundraising group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting control systems from the University of North Texas. In 2009, Wendell became the Director of PowerCare, a division of Interstate that provides motive and critical power solutions. As Vice President, he oversees essential products and services for industrial markets.
Wendell enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, watching and playing sports, and serving in the youth ministry at his church.
